1/21/12 09:04 pm - blatant stealing of links and organization from a friend regarding Ron PaulSo I get why a lot of folks my age like Ron Paul. He's not like the other politicians, he says what he believes regardless of whether the people he's talking to like it. He wants to get rid of the wars, foreign and drug. He has a lot of good things to say, and I agree with him on a good many issues. Unfortunately, the guy is outrageously racist, homophobic, and sexist. He wants to get rid of all federal protections - including environmental, consumer, and civil. In Ron Paul's America it would perfectly fine for Exxon to drill for oil in Glacier National Park, and pump the waste into a nearby stream. They would only hire straight white men and children, and they would work them 60 hours week with no overtime, breaks, benefits, or safety measures. If you're okay with all of that then by all means continue to support the guy. (Stephen Davis via FaceBook )
I suppose you could disagree with my version of Ron Paul's America, but all you have to do is look at the way companies treated workers and the environment before OSHA, labor laws, and the EPA were around to force them to do better. You could argue that that was then, and it wouldn't happen like that today, but then you just have to look at the way American companies treat workers in China and Indonesia. Some choice quotes: [from The Atlantic, link below] "Given the inefficiencies of what DC laughingly calls the criminal justice system, I think we can safely assume that 95 percent of the black males in that city are semi-criminal or entirely criminal." "We are constantly told that it is evil to be afraid of black men, it is hardly irrational." After the Los Angeles riots, one article in a newsletter claimed, "Order was only restored in L.A. when it came time for the blacks to pick up their welfare checks." One referred to Martin Luther King Jr. as "the world-class philanderer who beat up his paramours" and who "seduced underage girls and boys." Another referred to Barbara Jordan, a civil rights activist and congresswoman as "Barbara Morondon," the "archetypical half-educated victimologist." http://www.theatlantic.com/politics/arc He's openly said he would like to abolish the EPA, the Dept. of Education, the Civil Rights Act, and labor laws. You tell me, what is there to disagree with? You can't just stick your head in the sand and refuse to believe what's on the record for the guy... I personally don't think any of the candidates are qualified. The Republican field is rather weak this election year. No matter who the nominee is, I think they'll have a tough time beating Obama in the general. Like him or not, Obama is a talented campaigner, and he's got the incumbent advantage. None of the GOP contenders so far have shown they can come even close... Ron Paul doesn't believe in evolution: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=pl Scans of his racist and homophobic newsletter articles: http://www.mrdestructo.com/2011/12/g Video of him saying education and healthcare is not a right, then he starts to rant about "the good 'ol days" (which never existed, but that's a whole other discussion): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tD8rJCbE Voting against MLK Day as a national holiday: http://www.govtrack.us/congress/vote.xp and again http://www.govtrack.us/congress/vote.xp Ridiculing black activists, led by Al Sharpton, for demonstrating at the Statue of Liberty in favor of renaming New York City after Martin Luther King. The newsletter suggests that “Welfaria,” “Zooville,” “Rapetown,” “Dirtburg,”and “Lazyopolis ” would be better alternatives—and says, “Next time, hold that demonstration at a food stamp bureau or a crack house.”: http://www.tnr.com/sites/default/fi “federal-homosexual cover-up on AIDS.”: http://graphics.thomsonreuters.com/11/1 Paul explained that he didn't actually write the newsletters but because they carried his name he was morally responsible for their content. Further, he said he didn't know exactly who wrote the offensive things and they didn't represent his views. Paul has said a few things on that, a history of his explanations is at http://www.csmonitor.com/USA/Electi Make up your own minds, but I think a prejudice-filled hate-rag emblazoned with the title "Ron Paul’s Freedom Report" that he admits to publishing is enough, regardless of who typed up the first-person paranoid delusions within. |
